English: M in blue square (similar to seen on )

I was assisting a customer with their sick computer when they received a fake call claiming to be from Microsoft.  I recognised the situation instantly and offered to handle the call to test how clever the attack might be; they tried to guide me to find “inevitable problems” on the computer.  This is not difficult, there are many files and logs on all computers which will look scary to those of you who just want to get on and do email and web browsing without looking under the bonnet (or hood if you are in North America!).

What worried me most was that they knew their target’s name and address – so beware!

Microsoft will not make unsolicited phone calls to help you with your computer. If you receive a phone call like this, hang up.

We constantly check many of our customer’s computer systems to make sure that they are performing optimally and that they remain secure from attack, this gives them peace of mind, and the reliability which we all need from our computers – a service from people you can trust.  If this interests you then please give Bob a call on 01494 857572.
