Concept trailer revealed for highly anticipated Microsoft Surface Pro 5

According to recent sales figures published by Digitimes, 2015 was a successful year for the Microsoft Surface series! Approximately 2.5 million Microsoft Surface hybrid tablet devices were sold between October and December and, over the course of the year, more than 6 million Microsoft Surface series devices were sold across the globe. Consequently, the release of the concept trailer for the fifth generation Surface series hybrid tablet device has garnered significant attention from consumers and industry experts alike.

Titled as the Microsoft Surface Pro 5, the concept trailer for this new device hints that it will be an upgraded version of Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 ‘laplet’; a device which has been marketed as ‘the tablet which can replace your laptop’. Although the exact specification details of this enhanced ‘laplet’ device remain unconfirmed, Microsoft’s developers have hinted that the Surface Pro 5 will be equipped with a more advanced stylus pen device. As matters stand, the current stylus pen which accompanies the Surface Pro 4 is a non-rechargeable, battery operated device. Subsequently, the introduction of a rechargeable stylus pen which would latch onto the Surface Pro 5 via a magnetic docking connection would serve as a far more convenient and cost-effective alternative.

In addition to these stylus pen upgrades, the concept trailer for the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 also hints that this new and improved hybrid tablet device will feature a larger 12.3 inch screen, lighter 7.6mm dimensions, front facing speakers, a laptop class keyboard with an integrated fingerprint reader, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD as well as advanced USB technology features. Microsoft’s developers have also discussed how the Surface Pro 5 will boast improved battery performance capabilities; a flaw which was a primary cause of concern for Surface Pro 4 users who noted that their devices consumed too much power whilst on sleep mode. Microsoft have also stated that the Surface Pro 5 will be equipped with a range of Surface-specific firmware updates, software and driver upgrades which will facilitate heightened network security.

Industry officials have suggested that the Surface Pro 5 will be commercially released in October 2016. Ultimately, with the full product specification yet to be unveiled, and with reports suggesting that Apple may be about to launch an updated iPad tablet device at their company event on 21st March 2016, only time will tell whether this new and improved Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will exceed expectations in the same way as its predecessors!
