Azure widens cloud options for Java coders

Microsoft’s latest quarterly results show the company is continuing to make more money from its cloud services as companies migrate to these cost-effective services. Microsoft doesn’t even mind businesses using rival creations like Java or Linux virtual machines running in Azure alongside Windows, as long as it gets your business. Microsoft Azure is a cloud computing platform and infrastructure for services, either platform or infrastructure as a service, supporting a wide and growing range of frameworks and features.

With Microsoft’s Azure approaching its sixth birthday (next February), the company continues to make Azure more accessible to coders and companies coming from other systems. The latest raft of updates improve the range of APIs for Java to help code apps or micro services using the Azure software development kit (SDK). That way, Java can use Azure Cloud Services such as SQL Database and Table Service, Blob, Media and Queue Services, plus Service Bus Queues. The SDK runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. Don’t like what you see? Change it! It’s open source and available on GitHub.

This means a business with a legacy Java environment can more easily move to Azure, while those with mixed environments can use features like Azure’s Active Directory Library for Java to manage their business identity services. Companies running NoSQL solutions can connect a Java app to crunch the numbers using MongoDB’s popular Java API, with MongoDB running via MongoLab on Azure, while the DocumentDB service from Microsoft also has a Java SDK.

From Docker containers and Cloud Foundry, to reactive programming and the Internet of Things, there’s a huge open market with Azure’s Marketplace to acquire all the components a business needs to create cloud platforms or infrastructure to help grow their operation. Whatever your needs, we can help your small or medium sized business get set up with Microsoft Azure, all with enterprise-class privacy and security, and access to essential services like Office 365 and Dynamics CRM Online to help make your business more efficient and cost effective, whatever your original services ran on, or if you are building a business IT service from scratch.
