It’s common knowledge that we need protection from rogue programs that can wreak havoc to our computers, so it amazes me how many computers I find with expired subscriptions to anti virus software.  Many computers only have basic protection which doesn’t even detect malware.

With the number of free products on the market that offer great protection there is no excuse. One stands out in particular – Microsoft Security Essentials.

Why do I like Microsoft Security Essentials? (apart from it being free to consumers and small business’) It is quiet, you are only alerted when there is a real problem that needs attention.  Other free options I have tested are noisy; they often pop up messages to let us know how fantastic they are at protecting the computer; but that’s okay because they want to try and sell you the quiet version – With Security essentials this isn’t necessary.

another great about Microsoft Security Essentials: it has a small footprint, this means it does not need much computer power to provide protection so it is ideal for netbooks and older computers.
