Everyone knows that all of our computers need protection from rogue programs but it amazes me how many computers I find with an expired subscription to antivirus software.  Many computers only have basic protection which does not detect malware.

There is no excuse – there are many free products which offer great protection but one stands out in particular – Microsoft Security Essentials.

Why do I like Microsoft Security Essentials apart from the free offer to consumers and small businesses – it is quiet – it only alerts you when there is a real problem that needs attention.  Other free options I try are noisy; they keep popping up messages to let us know how wonderful they are at protecting your computer; that’s ok because they want to try to sell you the quiet version – but we know we do not need to buy anything and do not have any more irrelevant pop up messages.

What else is great about Microsoft Security Essentials – it has a small footprint which means it does not need much computer power to give protection; so it is ideal for netbooks and older computers.
