iOS devices now outselling Windows PCs as working patterns change
In the continuing shift to mobile devices, combined sales of the iPad and iPhone now beat those of Windows PCs. PC sales were down 8% on 2014 according to research firm Gartner (http://www.gartner.com/newsroom/id/3185224), which puts them at their lowest since 2008. While that decline continues, iPhone sales, since the device moved up to phablet size, show no sign of slowing. Huge sales of iPhones help support decent iPad sales, which in turn were boosted by the launch of the recent 12-inch iPad Pro model.
Based on those huge sales, the iOS family now beats those of combined PC notebooks and desktops (https://twitter.com/asymco/status/687048149358231552/photo/1). Any business that limits their office to PC-only working methods may need to consider changing their approach as the inevitable march of mobility continues. We can give you all the infrastructure and support to enable safe and secure mobile working. That and access to money saving cloud services can benefit any company by improving workforce productivity and efficiency, while reducing the need to spend on hardware and software.
While many of those iOS devices are acquired by individuals, they often end up as working devices for email, collaboration, and productivity. The arrival of a near desktop-equivalent and feature-complete version of Microsoft Office appearing across all mobile platforms will only help drive this change, while Microsoft Office 365 enables near-seamless work across any platform.
Mobility will play a key role in changing office habits in 2016, small businesses also need to be mindful of the end of the free Windows 10 upgrade offer in July. We can help plan a secure and safe migration for office PCs. Those working on notebooks will benefit from features like Cortana, Skype and OneDrive integration.
Microsoft remains a massive driving force for business, and its multi-billion dollar interests in enterprise and business software mean it won’t suffer much for the current losses through PC sales. Sales are expected to pick up by the end of 2016, as business upgrades kick in. Whatever your PC and business software needs, now or in the future, we can offer all the services required to drive your company forward.
